The Restoration

Locations like this are special, and with far too many memories of holidays shared and storms weathered, selling was just not an option. Sharing the home with travelers needing accommodations made sense and Its safe to say their mother would be proud her home is now being enjoyed by so many.

The decision to completely restore our Inn came almost by accident. One day while repairing a minor crack in the plaster, deteriorated wires were discovered turning a small project into a larger one, the renovation had begun. Ceilings and walls were stripped, bathrooms were added and beautiful hard pine floors uncovered. Some of Southport's most skilled craftsmen joined our efforts in bringing the Inn back to life. The result is a home that looks and feels much the way it did a century ago when Lois Jane's grandfather Richard Dosher first built it.

Family's Gathering Place

Although our Inn is a temporary home to families visiting Southport, Bald Head, and Oak Island, it remains a special spot where our family gathers on most Holidays, Birthdays and Weddings. There's just something about this old home that keeps you coming back time and time again. In fact, many of our guests have been staying with us for years and we're committed to making your stay here a memorable one.
Originally built in the 1890s and restored by her children a century later, the Inn is a tribute to a special lady and a town she loved so much. The decision to transition their childhood home into a Bed and Breakfast came easy for children Davey Herring and Meezie Childs. Locations like this are special, and with far too many memories of holidays shared and storms weathered, selling was just not an option. Sharing the home with travelers needing accommodations made sense and Its safe to say their mother would be proud her home is now being enjoyed by so many.

Paying Tribute to Our Family's Matriarch

Last March, 2015 we lost someone very dear to all within our family. If you've stayed with us, you knew her, for those yet to come you missed out. Aunt Meezie Childs lived just two blocks away and visited our Inn daily, sometimes hourly making sure our guests were always well taken care of.

There are no guarantees in life, the sun rises each morning but seeing it is out of our hands. She was taken so suddenly without warning but I think she would agree that is the way to go. Aunt Meezie became more like her mother Lois jane with every passing day, sharing anything she had with anyone who asked.

I often say if she had just one dollar left, she would give it to the first person needing it most. She loved plants and flowers as much as anyone on Earth and her green thumb will be obvious once you visit her gardens around the Inn. She was one of a kind lady and will be greatly missed. rest assured she will still be watching over us all.
